Chip off the Old Hawk

Douglas County United Way will auction "Chip Off the Old Hawk" in an online auction beginning September 1, 2003. The auction will end September 10. The winner will be announced on September 17, during the Campaign Kick-Off event. The winner will also be recognized in a series of campaign advertisements.

Proceeds will benefit the 2003-2004 Douglas County United Way campaign.

Patchwork Hawk

The Lawrence Humane Society will auction “Patchwork Jayhawk” at its ninth annual benefit auction, Pawsible Dreams, on Friday, September 26, 2003 at Liberty Hall in Downtown Lawrence.

The event includes both a silent and live auction, comprised of donations from dozens of Lawrence and Kansas City area businesses. The silent auction will be held from 6:00-7:30 pm and the live auction will begin at 8:00 pm.

The event also includes a complimentary “Taste of Lawrence” buffet, featuring food from several of Lawrence’s most popular restaurants. A cash bar and entertainment will also be part of the evening’s festivities.

Tickets for the Pawsible Dreams Benefit Auction are $15 per person, or $25 per couple. Tickets may be purchased at Liberty Hall, the Lawrence Humane Society or at the door.

All proceeds raised from the Pawsible Dreams Benefit Auction directly benefit the welfare of the abandoned and abused animals of Douglas County, Kansas by providing much needed food, shelter, medications, vaccinations and veterinary bills. Each year, the Lawrence Humane Society provides sheltering of over 5,500 dogs, cats and other small animals. The organization provides comprehensive pet adoption and lost and found programs as well as ongoing pet education and emergency rescue initiatives for the entire community. Additionally, the Society supports cruelty investigations and liaison/outreach programs to government agencies, humane groups and veterinarians to enhance cooperation and community support.

Jayhawk as a Cow on Parade

The Shelter, Inc. will sell the Jayhawk as a Cow on Parade during its annual fund-raising event, the Festival of Trees. The date has not yet been formally announced, but the event is usually held the week after Thanksgiving. The Jayhawk will be displayed along with approximately 50 donated decorated Christmas trees at Liberty Hall from Monday through Thursday of that week.

On Tuesday night of that week, the trees and the Jayhawk will be sold in a live auction. The charge to attend the auction party is $25 a person, which can be paid at the door. (The charge for viewing the trees and the Jayhawk during the week is $2 per adult.)

Peacock on Parade

The Lawrence Arts Center will auction the Peacock on Parade at its annual art auction April 24, 2004. Tickets to the auction are $20 and are available at the door. Persons who are unable to attend the event may place bids with an arts center staff member in advance; the staff member will place the bid during the auction.

Hawk With a View

This Jayhawk will be sold in the live auction at Salute!, July 12, 2003. Salute! is an annual festival of Wine & Food, which benefits Cottonwood, Inc., featuring vintages from more than 200 wineries as well as gourmet cuisine from nine local restaurants. Tickets for the event are available beginning June 2. Tickets are $50 per person.

The Jayhawk will remain on display at the Hereford House location after the auction, through the conclusion of the Jayhawks on Parade event in November, at which time the winning bidder can take possession.
